A total of 63 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have officially declared their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The declaration, made through a joint statement signed by Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, MP for Mampong, underscores what political observers describe as a major boost for Dr. Bawumia’s bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
According to the group, their endorsement stems from their confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, competence, and vision for Ghana’s transformation.
They described him as a “decisive, innovative, and unifying” leader capable of continuing the policies of the Akufo-Addo administration while driving new ideas in governance and economic management.
“Dr. Bawumia has proven himself as a results-oriented leader with an unmatched understanding of the modern economy. We believe he is the right man to lead our great party to victory,” the statement noted.

Political analysts say the growing number of parliamentary endorsements positions Dr. Bawumia as a frontrunner, though competition remains stiff within the party.
