Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, the first wife of legendary Ghanaian Highlife musician Daddy Lumba, has spoken publicly for the first time since the legal and public controversy that followed the artiste’s death. The musician, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, leaving behind unresolved issues regarding who should be recognized as his rightful widow.

In the weeks following his passing, a heated legal dispute emerged between Akosua Serwaa Fosuh and Odo Broni, legally known as Priscilla Ofori Atta. Akosua Serwaa filed a suit seeking a court declaration that she was the late musician’s only legal spouse. She argued that she had been Lumba’s first and legitimate wife and should therefore be acknowledged as the sole widow.

However, on Friday, November 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court ruled that both women qualify as legitimate spouses of the late musician. The decision triggered widespread public debate, with many Ghanaians weighing in on who should perform the widowhood rites, who should control decisions surrounding his estate, and who should be officially recognized as his widow.

In its ruling, the court explained that Akosua Serwaa did not present an original, certified copy of a civil marriage certificate with the late musician. Instead, the evidence provided was an extract, which the court deemed insufficient to establish her exclusive legal claim.

Following the verdict, her lawyer, William Kusi, revealed that Akosua Serwaa has instructed him to appeal the decision. According to him, she believes strongly that the High Court ruling does not reflect the true nature of her marriage to the late icon.

In a video that has since gone viral online, Akosua Serwaa expressed heartfelt gratitude to her supporters. She said their encouragement had strengthened her during this difficult period, adding that she never realized how many people cared deeply for her until the issue came to light. Despite the court’s ruling, she declared her confidence in eventually winning the case as it moves to the appeals stage.

The unfolding legal drama continues to attract public attention, as fans and observers monitor how the case will shape the legacy and estate of one of Ghana’s most celebrated Highlife legends.
