The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the alleged abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, also known as Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.
The suspects have been identified as 32-year-old Mahumudu Abdulai, 32-year-old Ganiu Sumaila, and 28-year-old Abdulai Salam.
According to the Police, the three suspects were arrested at different locations in Sang in the Mion District on September 29, 2026, following investigations into the alleged kidnapping.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was abducted on September 25 by four armed men who reportedly attacked him and his brother at their residence.
The alleged kidnappers subsequently contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 in exchange for his release.
However, the victim managed to escape from his captors and was assisted by some farmers, who took him to a health facility in Sambu for medical attention.
Police officers proceeded to the clinic after receiving information about the victim’s whereabouts and engaged him as part of their investigations.
The victim reportedly told the Police that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men before he eventually escaped.
During the investigation, the victim identified the three arrested suspects from photographs presented to him by the Police.
The Police further indicated that preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to other robbery incidents recorded in the area.
The three suspects remain in Police custody and are assisting with investigations as the authorities work to apprehend the remaining alleged accomplices.
The Police are also continuing efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and other related criminal activities.
