The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akuffo Dampare, has appealed for support from corporate Ghana in the lead-up to the December 7 general elections.
During an engagement with the Christian Council of Ghana at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Thursday, Dr. Dampare acknowledged the diligent efforts of the police and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security. He emphasized the need for a collective effort and encouragement from corporate entities.
The IGP urged prominent groups and associations to back the police in their mission to ensure a peaceful election. “We wish you well in your roles and ask for your support and encouragement. Our work is hard, and some people don’t love this country and envy our peace and security. We need your backing to ensure that evil does not triumph over good,” he stated.
Dr. Dampare also highlighted the significant role of religious leaders in promoting peace among their followers. He proposed that the police engage with the electorate weekly to discuss election security and address related concerns.
He called on Ghanaians to reinforce unity and collective responsibility in maintaining electoral peace and security during the upcoming general elections.
“We should consider our children and the legacy we leave for them. We need to leave this place so that we can live in peace. This way, we ensure a good environment for our children, regardless of their faith, tribe, or religion,” he noted.
