Damongo, July 23, 2024 – The Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor, has pledged to uphold the authority and respect of the Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Soele Bi Kunuto.

“I will take all measures necessary to restore normalcy between myself and the Jakpa Palace, which is my natural home,” Mr. Jinapor declared during a media interview in Damongo on Monday.

Mr. Jinapor emphasized his deep respect for the Yagbonwura, stating, “The Yagbonwura is traditionally my grandfather and overlord, and I will never do anything to undermine him.”

The Minister was responding to a recent media publication that claimed the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Seole Bi Kunuto, had banned him from campaigning in the traditional area. The report suggested that Mr. Jinapor was considered a threat to the peace of the Traditional area, leading to the ban.

In his response, Mr. Jinapor expressed his unwavering respect for the chieftaincy institution and affirmed that he would always hold all chiefs, particularly his overlord, in high regard. He explained that the controversy stemmed from miscommunication and misunderstanding.

Mr. Jinapor called for calm, peace, and unity in the Gonja Kingdom and Damongo, as development projects continue to be pursued.
