The chiefs and people of Ada in the Greater Accra Region are celebrating the annual Asafotufiami festival with colorful ceremonies and traditional rituals.The festival, which started on August 1, will end on August 7 this year.Asafotufiami, which means “war festival,” is celebrated by the Ada people to commemorate their victories in ancient wars.The festival is characterized by traditional drumming, dancing, and the display of colorful regalia.This year’s festival was launched with a grand durbar of chiefs and people at the Ada Paramount Chief’s palace.The durbar was attended by the Paramount Chief of Ada, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, and other dignitaries.
The festival has so far featured various activities, including a cleansing ceremony at the Ada River, a traditional wrestling match, and a display of traditional cuisine.The people of Ada have also showcased their rich cultural heritage through music, dance, and art performances.The Asafotufiam festival is an important event in the calendar of the Ada people, and it attracts visitors from across Ghana and beyond.”The Asafotufiam festival is a celebration of our cultural heritage and our history,” said Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III.”We are proud to showcase our traditions and customs to the world.”The festival will end with a grand finale on August 7, featuring a display of traditional regalia and a cultural performance.
