David Blagodzi, a 43-year-old farmer, was sentenced to 10 years of hard labor by the Jasikan Circuit Court for unlawfully possessing ammunition. Blagodzi pleaded guilty and was convicted based on his admission.
The court, led by Mr. Michael Johnson Abbey, also ordered that the confiscated ammunition be sold, with the proceeds directed to the Consolidated Fund.
ASP Seth Vincent Kpodo reported that the police stopped a vehicle with Blagodzi at the Nkwanta barrier on July 17. A search uncovered two cartons in Blagodzi’s bag containing 250 AAA cartridges and 250 00 cartridges. Blagodzi confessed and disclosed his plan to sell the cartridges in Chillinga.
Given Nkwanta’s status as a restricted area for arms and ammunition due to ongoing conflicts, the court imposed a severe sentence.
Blagodzi’s punishment aims to deter similar illegal activities and underscores the importance of complying with arms and ammunition regulations.
