The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated the verification process for its 276 parliamentary candidates in preparation for the Electoral Commission’s nomination period, which is set for September 9-13, 2024. This verification exercise will run from August 12-16, 2024, at the Agyemin-Boateng Conference Room in Kokomlemle.

A nine-member committee, led by Frank Davies, has been established to oversee the process. The committee, including members like Evans Nimako, Gary Nimako, Ben Abdallah, and others, will thoroughly examine the documentation of all aspirants to ensure they comply with EC regulations and requirements.

The verification process begins today with candidates from 53 constituencies in the Ashanti and Ahafo regions. It will continue with candidates from the Eastern and Central regions on August 13, Greater Accra and Volta regions on August 14, Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper West regions on August 15, and conclude with candidates from the Oti, Western, Western North, Bono, and Bono East regions on August 16.

Evans Nimako, Director of Research and Elections and secretary to the committee, emphasized that the primary goal is to ensure that all candidates meet the Constitutional requirements as outlined in Article 94 of the 1992 Constitution. The committee will also compile reports on each candidate’s compliance status, address any issues that arise during the screening process, and recommend suitable candidates to the National Executive Committee (NEC).
