The Assemblies of God (AG) Church in Ghana has made remarkable progress in expanding access to quality education by establishing 364 basic schools nationwide. Through its Non-Governmental Organization, AG Care Ghana, the Church aims to uplift underprivileged communities by offering education, vocational training, and healthcare services.
During the 31st Biennial General Council meeting held in Navrongo, Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region, Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of AG Church, Ghana, reiterated the Church’s dedication to development. He emphasized the Church’s leadership role in providing livelihood empowerment, vocational skills training, and access to quality education and health services.
AG Care Ghana’s community infrastructure programme has yielded tangible results, including the construction of three basic school blocks, three-unit teachers and nurses’ accommodations, and rainwater harvesting facilities.
The education initiative has significantly extended its impact, reaching over 12,000 basic school pupils in underprivileged rural areas. Additionally, five modern Early Childhood Education centers have been built and handed over to these communities.
The Livelihood Empowerment Programme, which was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has resumed with a renewed focus, aiming to provide vocational skills training to over 100 girls within the next two years. AG Care has also empowered 750 women across five rural communities through skills training and a village savings and loans scheme.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the Special Guest of Honour at the meeting, praised the partnership between the Church and the State in fostering development. He highlighted the Church’s significant role in addressing both spiritual and physical needs and encouraged Churches to expand skills training programs to support children who are unable to continue with secondary education.
The efforts of the AG Church have substantially increased educational opportunities in Ghana, underscoring its commitment to improving the lives of underprivileged communities.
