The Coalition of Concerned Persons with Disabilities (CCPWDs) has expressed deep concern over comments made by former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s Flagbearer. During a campaign rally, Mahama implied that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, known for his fluency, stammered during a media interaction, suggesting stammering is linked to dishonesty.
The CCPWDs have condemned these remarks, stating that stammering, a speech disorder affecting millions, has no connection to a person’s honesty or competence. The group emphasized that such comments from a prominent public figure perpetuate harmful stereotypes and undermine efforts to promote inclusivity in Ghana.
The coalition called on Mahama to publicly apologize and clarify that stammering does not equate to dishonesty, stressing the importance of respecting the dignity of all individuals, including those with disabilities.
