Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr. John Mahama, has inaugurated the Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward at the Nkoranza Health Centre in the Bono East Region. The facility, constructed by his wife’s foundation, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, is fully equipped with advanced medical tools including incubators, ultrasound machines, and surgical beds.
During the ceremony, Mr. Mahama commended his wife for her unwavering dedication to the well-being of women and children. He said the Lordina Foundation has been actively promoting maternal and child healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment for the past 20 years.
The newly inaugurated Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward, spanning almost 2,000 square meters, will deliver comprehensive maternal and neonatal care, from antenatal services to delivery and postnatal care, ensuring mothers and their new-borns receive optimal care at every stage.
The facility is fully equipped with modern medical tools, including 33 beds, 10 baby cots, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) featuring three incubators and physiotherapy machines. It also boasts of a theatre with two surgical beds, shadowless theatre lamps, and critical accessories.
The delivery room is equipped with two electronic delivery beds, baby bassinets, baby baths, and delivery carts. Other facilities include doctors’ consulting rooms, nurses’ stations, and examination rooms furnished with patient monitors, examination beds, an ultrasound machine, vaccine fridge, stethoscopes, and several others.
Additionally, there is a sterilization room with two autoclaves, privacy screens, wheelchairs, an emergency cart, and other vital medical supplies. The child-friendly wards, powered by a standby generator, also feature a basement that can serve as offices, meeting rooms, and storage.
Addressing the gathering, Bono East Deputy Regional Director in charge of Medical Care at the Ghana Health Service, Ms. Hellen Agbozo, expressed gratitude for the gesture and assured that the facility would be operationalized swiftly to serve the community.
The President of the Foundation, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, said improving maternal care and reducing maternal mortality has always been her passion and dream.
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. John Mahama said the facility is timely and much needed.
This is the second health infrastructure project funded by the Lordina Foundation, following the successful inauguration of the first facility, two years ago at Bole in the Savannah region.
The foundation also participates in charitable activities, distributing food and educational materials to those in need. The Foundation remains committed to building more maternity and children’s wards across the country.
