Austrian Foreign Affairs Minister Visits National DoG Academy

On Friday, 13th September 2024, Austrian Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Alexander Schallenberg, visited the National Dog Academy in Dzorwulu, Accra. His visit aimed to strengthen diplomatic ties between Ghana and Austria, as well as discuss the establishment of an Austrian embassy in Ghana.

During his visit, Mr. Schallenberg praised the Provost Marshal and his team for their outstanding work, expressing his admiration for the impressive display of dogs donated to the academy. He expressed optimism for deepening cooperation between Austria and Ghana, while also envisioning future partnerships with other countries, including Belgium and Germany, to develop a stronger security force.

Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col.) Nii Okai Quaye, the General Staff Officer Grade 1 (GSO1), provided Mr. Schallenberg and his delegation with a comprehensive briefing on the history and current operations of the National Dog Academy. He informed them that the academy currently houses 30 fully trained adult dogs, with four puppies undergoing training, which are set to be deployed to Tamale.

Lt. Col. Quaye further elaborated on the essential roles these military dogs play, from explosive detection to VVIP vehicle inspections and the detection of drugs and counterfeit currency, emphasizing the crucial support provided by Austria.
