The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has directed its members to continue providing uninterrupted medical services despite Organized Labour’s nationwide strike tomorrow.
Dr. Frank Serebour, GMA President, emphasized that the association hasn’t declared a roadmap for industrial action and urged members to maintain full services.
He also expressed solidarity with Organized Labour’s campaign against illegal mining, or “galamsey,” but clarified that GMA won’t join the strike yet.
However, Dr. Serebour’s decision has sparked controversy within the association. Dr. Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, a GMA member, has filed a petition seeking Dr. Serebour’s removal as President.
The petition, dated October 8, alleges that Dr. Serebour issued a statement without consulting the National Executive Council or General Assembly.
The petition outlines serious allegations against Dr. Serebour, questioning his unilateral decision-making. This development may lead to further tensions within the GMA, potentially impacting its stance on the strike and relationships with Organized Labour.
The GMA’s National Executive Council has promised to provide further updates when necessary. As the situation unfolds, it’s essential to monitor the association’s next steps and how they might influence the ongoing industrial action in Ghana.
