The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is gearing up to introduce a new prepayment metering system in the Volta Region, starting with a pilot phase in Ho, the regional capital, in 2025.

This move aims to tackle the challenges posed by malfunctioning prepaid meters currently in use. According to Mrs. Christina Jato-Kaleo, the Volta and Oti Regional General Manager of ECG, the pilot phase will involve testing the BRASSICA PAY system on about 200 prepaid meters. This will help identify and address potential challenges before the full rollout.

The new system will replace the old prepaid meters, many of which are not functioning well. The rollout will start in Ho, with other districts like Hohoe coming onboard later, depending on the success of the pilot phase. However, the expansion to other areas will depend on the strength of internet connectivity in the communities. .

ECG is working with telecom companies to improve their services and support the new prepayment system. The introduction of the new prepayment metering system demonstrates ECG’s commitment to efficient service delivery and addressing customer challenges. By prioritizing connectivity issues, ECG aims to ensure a smooth transition to the BRASSICA prepayment system across the Volta Region, enhancing electricity supply reliability and customer satisfaction.
