Ghanaian reggae artist Rocky Dawuni has once again missed out on the prestigious Grammy Award, despite being nominated for the fourth time. Dawuni was nominated for Best Global Music Performance for his song “Rise,” but lost out to Sheila E for her song “BemBa Colora”.
Dawuni’s nomination was a significant achievement, as it marked his fourth time being recognized by the Grammy Awards. His previous nominations were for Best Reggae Album for his album “Branches of the Same Tree” in 2016, and for Best Global Music Album for his album “Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1” in 2022 .
Despite not winning, Dawuni’s nominations are a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft. He is known for his unique sound, which blends reggae, Afrobeat, highlife, and soul music. Dawuni has been praised for his ability to inspire unity and promote social justice through his music.
In a conversation with Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel at the 2025 Grammy Awards, Dawuni was encouraged to keep pushing forward, despite not winning. Vybz Kartel told Dawuni, “If you’ve been nominated four times, that means you’re doing something good”.
Dawuni’s loss may be disappointing, but it will not deter him from continuing to create music that inspires and uplifts his fans. As he continues to push the boundaries of Afro-reggae music, Dawuni remains a proud ambassador for Ghanaian music on the global stage.
