The alarming rise of diabetes in Dormaa Ahenkro and its surrounding communities has been revealed by Christian Abi, the Nutrition Officer at Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital.

According to Mr. Abi, the global incidence of diabetes is staggering, affecting over 580 million individuals worldwide.

In Ghana, the situation is equally concerning, with 4 to 5 out of every 10 individuals diagnosed with the condition.

However, the Bono Region, particularly Dormaa Ahenkro and its neighboring communities, has been identified as a hotspot for diabetes. A staggering 8 to 9 out of every 10 individuals in the area have been diagnosed with the condition.

Mr. Abi emphasized that diabetes is a serious health concern, ranking among the top ten killer diseases worldwide. He noted that while there is no definitive cure for diabetes, it can be managed through careful dietary choices and prescribed medications.

“Diabetic patients often experience fluctuating sugar levels, and the key to managing the condition is to stabilize these levels through careful dietary choices,” Mr. Abi explained.

He cautioned against claims by herbalists and conventional practitioners who claim to have a cure for diabetes. “Diet and medication can only regulate and manage the condition, not completely eradicate it,” he stressed.

As the prevalence of diabetes continues to rise in Dormaa Ahenkro and its surrounding communities, Mr. Abi urged residents to take proactive steps to manage their condition and prevent complications.

By raising awareness about the alarming rise of diabetes in the area, Mr. Abi hopes to encourage residents to take control of their health and seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms of the condition.
