Over 30 students of Sawla Senior High School in the Savannah Region have been suspended indefinitely for violating school rules and regulations.

According to sources, the students, mostly girls, were found with mobile phones on campus, contrary to the Ghana Education Service’s rules. Further investigations revealed that the students were also involved in immoral activities within the school premises.

A seven-member committee set up by the school management to investigate the matter found the students guilty, leading to their suspension.

This is not the first time the school has been embroiled in controversy. In recent years, Sawla SHS has faced issues with tutor-student relationships, resulting in the dismissal and suspension of some staff members.

The school’s academic performance has also been a concern, with the school recording the lowest position in the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Savannah Region.

Meanwhile, some parents have expressed dissatisfaction with the school’s decision to suspend the students without prior notification. They argue that they should have been informed and involved in the decision-making process.

The school is yet to comment on the matter.
