Government has suspended the rotational marking of the Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations on every sixth day of March moving this years ceremony to the Jubilee House.
During a press briefing, spokesperson to the president, Felix Ofosu Kwakye,indicated that this move is to cut down costs accumulated by the previous government whilst commemorating the day. “In the spirit of cutting down on government expenditure on non-essential spending, President Mahama has instructed that the rotational policy be suspended” he indicated.
He further revealed that the president initiated this move due to the current economic challenges plaguing the country and believes a holding modest event to celebrate such an important day will create more room to allocate funds to wards other government expenditures.
Meanwhile, the previous government rotated the Independence Day celebration from its usual independence Square in Accra to various regions throughout the country. Some of the regions include; Tamale, Ho and Kumasi as a means to promote the national unity and diversity across different parts of the country.
