The government’s proposed National Education Forum has come under criticism from a former Deputy Minister of Education, who has described it as a waste of resources.
Rev John Ntim Fordjour, who served as Deputy Minister of Education in the past, questioned the necessity of the forum, which is set to begin on February 18 and culminate in a two-day validation conference on February 27 this year.
According to Fordjour, the forum is unnecessary because the government already has a comprehensive education strategic plan in place, which was developed in 2018 and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“What they are going to do is nothing new. It is going to be a waste of time and waste of Ghana’s precious resources,” Fordjour said in an interview.
The former deputy minister also argued that the government should focus on implementing its proposed education policies, rather than convening a new forum. He highlighted that President Mahama made specific promises to voters regarding the education sector during his campaign, and that it is now time to translate those promises into actionable policies.
The National Education Forum is expected to bring together stakeholders in the education sector to discuss the challenges facing the sector and propose solutions.
However, Fordjour’s criticism has raised questions about the effectiveness of the forum and whether it will achieve its intended objectives.
