The West African Examinations Council has released a total of 38,316 provisional results of private candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). In a press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Council, John K. Kapi, 1,354 private candidates who registered for the examination were absent; however, the total entries recorded by the Council saw 17,596 private candidates as males and 21,131 as females.

The release further noted that the results of 108 candidates have been withheld due to examination malpractices spotted either during the conduct of the exams or when scripts were being marked. The Council has advised affected candidates to keep calm and await conclusions from its ongoing investigations.

Per the performance of candidates in the core subjects, statistically, WAEC has projected Social Studies as the subject with the best performance, recording an 87.88% of students scoring between A1 and C6. Core Mathematics, being the least from the core subjects, projected a 37.44% of students scoring grades from A1 to C6, interpreting that most private candidates could not ace in the Mathematics subject.

WAEC has further warned the entire public against paying for upgraded results. The body clarified that its database is very secure, and any individual who may pose as officials from WAEC with claims of upgrading results of candidates should be considered as scammers.
