Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has announced government’s intention to introduce a mathematics curriculum for visually impaired students in senior high school levels.
This move is in the bid to ensure that the Ghanaian school curriculum becomes inclusive through out every educational system. The educational minister made this announcement during the inauguration of a 12-member GES Governing Council last Friday May 2, 2025.
Haruna Iddrisu stated that the Ministry of Education collaboratively with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) are working on the development of the said curriculum. “Accordingly we are working with the National Council for curriculum Assessment to undertake some bold reforms as curriculum to make it truly inclusive. We are currently developing a mathematics curriculum specifically tailored for blind students at the senior high school levels.”. The minister announced.
The minister added that the curriculum will help visually impaired students integrate into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers paths in the near future.
The education minister further announced its intention to introduce a Ghanaian Sign Language curriculum for persons living with disability, particularly those with hearing impairment.
The minister finally administered the oath of secrecy and the oath of office to the Governing Council members.
