Mid – Year Budget Review to Touch on Road Contractor Payments – Thomas Ampem.

Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Ampem Nyarko has revealed that the government will give more clarification into the payments of contractor arrears over stalled road projects in the mid – year budget review.

During a media interaction with Citi News, the deputy Minister for Finance revealed that upon several
comprehensive reviews by the Auditor-General some amounts were noticed to have been disallowed. He added that Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson will provide an update into the findings as well as a road map for clearing these arrears during the presentation of this year’s mid – year budget review.

Furthermore, Mr. Ampem Nyarko during the interaction mentioned that the government have targeted some GHï¿ 13 billion for the clearance of these arrears this year. “Already, we have made plans for Gh¢13 billion, which we are religiously pursuing this year. In next year’s budget, we will announce another amount” he said.

He added that the move is line with the the government’s effort to prevent arrears build up as well as abiding strictly to the budget so as not to overspend.

Justifying his stance, Mr. Ampem Nyarko chastised the previous government saying; “Because if we go the way they did, we will be clearing the arrears, and we will be building up more arrears. That is not how to manage an economy. he noted.
