Ahead of the New Patriotic Patriotic party’s annual National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the party admist some regulatory guidance have called against the exhibition of campaign materials during the conference.
Chairman of the National Planning Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu during a press briefing on July 12 announced that items such as; flags, banners, billboards, t-shirts etc of aspiring presidential candidates are highly prohibited during the conference. “There shall be no billboards, banners, posters, flyers, T-shirts, or souvenirs with aspirant branding allowed at the venue or within Accra.” he announced.
He added that exhibition of such items before, during and after the conference will be seized and destroyed thereby calling for the halt in campaign activities against the party’s primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. Mr. Osei -Owusu clarified that the ban on campaigning and exhibition of aspiring candidates paraphernalia is in a bid to ensure a seamless and peaceful decision making during the conference and to instill the sense of unity within the party.
This year’s National Delegates Conference is targeted towards the proposed amendment of the NPP’s constitution. Mr Owusu disclosed that a 300 page document have been
circulated across the various regional and constituency branches and a 64 page summary has been attached to enhance for delegate discourse with proposed motions enshrined in these documents.
Aside the call against the flaunting of campaign materials, the NPP has outlined some other guidelines ahead of the conference this weekend.
Members of the public have been advised to monitor the conference online strictly restricting the conference to delegates only who have been assigned with accredition.
For media accredition, Journlists have been required to fill up a google form. They will later be assigned to a media village within the stadium and the feed from the conference will be provided for rebroadcasting.
Additionally, admist the resurgence of Covid – 19 at the University of Ghana, Legon campus, the health committee have ensured that there would be strict compliance to the Covid -19 safety protocols to ensure health safety of delegates during the conference . Mr. Osei-Owusu have announced that there would be seven medical stands within the stadium and three others outside the stadium accompanied with fifty volunteer doctors to guarantee the safety of delegates during the conference.
Safety during the conference will be achieved through a collaboration between the party’s security team and security personnel at the National level to ensure adherence to law and order during the conference.
