UniMAC Partners with Virginia Tech and UCC to Offer Short Course in Social Change Communication.

The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has announced a new collaborative short course in Social Change Communication, aimed at postgraduate students. This prestigious programme is being organized in partnership with Virginia Tech (USA), the University of Cape Coast (UCC), and various faculties including the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication (ALCE), and the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences.

The course, which is set to run from Tuesday, 26th August to Thursday, 18th December 2025, will be delivered online, with sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 PM to 5:45 PM.

At the conclusion of the programme, participants will be awarded an international certificate jointly issued by Virginia Tech, UniMAC, and UCC. The course also carries credits that are applicable for both UniMAC and UCC postgraduate students.

The short course will provide participants with in-depth knowledge and practical tools in the following thematic areas:

Theories, models, strategies, and campaigns in communication

Culture, politics, gender, youth and empowerment

Traditional media, new media, mobile phone use, internet access, and digital divides

Communication strategies in international development, agriculture, food security, rural livelihoods, and environmental sustainability

The course is open to MA, MPhil, and PhD students currently enrolled at UniMAC. It is especially designed for those with an academic or professional interest in media, development, policy, agriculture, and communication strategies.

The programme is 75% funded by the partnership arrangement, with each selected participant required to cover only 25% of the cost, amounting to GHC 5,000.

Interested postgraduate students must submit a letter of application to the Centre for Global Education and Collaboration via email at irelations@unimac.edu.gh. The application letter must include:

The applicant’s motivation for enrolling in the course

A brief description of academic or work experience

A statement of commitment to fully participate in the programme

Deadline for Submission: Sunday, 3rd August 2025

Short Course Duration: From Tuesday, 26th August to Thursday, 18th December 2025

Selection Interviews: A vetting panel will review applications, and interviews will be conducted either online or in person

Final Selection Announcement: By 15th August 2025

The programme is powered by the Centre for Global Education and Collaboration (CGEC) and the Faculty of Integrated Communication Sciences (FICS).
