President Donald J. Trump announced that he hosted a high-level diplomatic meeting at the White House, bringing together a coalition of world leaders and top officials to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and the prospects of ending the nearly four-year war with Russia.

Attending the meeting were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The discussions concluded with a further session in the Oval Office.

According to President Trump, the talks centered on a framework of Security Guarantees for Ukraine, with commitments expected to be provided by multiple European nations in coordination with the United States. Trump said participants expressed optimism about the possibility of peace between Russia and Ukraine.

At the conclusion of the meetings, President Trump stated that he personally called Russian President Vladimir Putin to begin preparations for a potential face-to-face meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy, at a location yet to be determined. Following that encounter, Trump said he intends to convene a trilateral summit involving himself, Putin, and Zelenskyy.

“This was a very good, early step for a war that has been going on for almost four years,” Trump said in his statement.

The effort is being supported by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who are coordinating with both Russian and Ukrainian counterparts.

While it remains unclear whether Moscow and Kyiv will agree to the proposed talks, President Trump characterized the discussions as a breakthrough moment, signaling renewed international momentum toward a negotiated peace.
