Ghana and Grenada have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance healthcare delivery through the temporary deployment of Ghanaian registered nurses to Grenada.

The signing ceremony took place in Accra during the official visit of Grenada’s Prime Minister, Honourable Dickon Mitchell, who was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, Honourable Joseph Andall, and a high-level delegation. The agreement was signed by Minister Andall on behalf of Grenada and Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on behalf of the Government of Ghana.

The MoU seeks to improve healthcare services in Grenada by addressing workforce shortages and enhancing public health responses. For Ghana, it presents an opportunity for its nurses to gain international experience and professional development, while promoting sustainable health partnerships and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Beyond the health sector, the agreement represents a significant step in advancing Africa–Caribbean relations. It underscores a shared commitment to deepen South–South cooperation and foster collaboration in education, trade, and capacity building within the broader Africa CARICOM framework.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell described the agreement as a milestone in both countries’ development efforts, stating:

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to improving the quality of life of our citizens through enhanced healthcare services. It strengthens the bonds of friendship between Ghana and Grenada and opens new avenues for cooperation in health and wellness.”

The agreement will come into effect after the completion of internal ratification processes in both countries.

Both governments have expressed optimism that this collaboration will serve as a model for future partnerships across various sectors, marking a new era of cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean.
