The Ashanti Region has elected Yaw Owusu Obimpeh as its new representative to the Council of State.
Mr Obimpeh, a former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, secured 49 votes in the election.
The election, which took place on Monday, February 17, 2025, saw Obimpeh emerge victorious with a significant margin. Nkansah Boadu Nana Ayeboafo came second with 35 votes, while Daniel Anarfi Yamoah garnered only 1 vote.
The election was conducted smoothly, with 85 valid votes cast out of the expected 86.
The outcome is seen as a testament to the democratic process in the region.
Mr Obimpeh’s election follows the suspension of the first election last week due to chaos that erupted during the process.
His victory is expected to bring stability and representation to the region on the Council of State.
