A 40-year-old experienced fisherman and diver, Lotsu Godson, was found drowned in the Volta River at Adidome in the Volta Region. His body was discovered floating on Monday, July 29, after his family had been searching for him for three days.

Mr. Guggisberg Fiagbenu, the Assembly Member of Adidome Central and brother of the deceased, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Mr. Lotsu was in good health and had no medical conditions that could have led to his drowning. He mentioned that the family had been searching for Mr. Lotsu everywhere following his sudden disappearance from home, until his body was found afloat.

“The police were notified, and the body was removed and taken to the morgue, but the experts there indicated that it was necessary to bury him as soon as possible,” he noted.

He lamented that the incident had left the family and many of his friends in a state of shock.

“Our brother was an experienced fisherman and diver. He could dive and stay underwater for many minutes. So we’re all shocked, but there’s nothing we can do now. He’s gone,” Mr. Guggisberg cried.

The Assembly Member cautioned fisherfolk in the area to be careful in their daily activities on the river to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

According to the Adidome Police, there was no foul play involved in Mr. Lotsu’s death.

After receiving clearance from the magistrate court in Adidome, the family buried Mr. Lotsu’s mortal remains last night.
