Renowned Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang has expressed his heartbreak over the ongoing devastation caused by illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, particularly its impact on the country’s water bodies and environment.
In a recent interview, Anang emphasized the critical need for immediate and decisive action to tackle the issue, warning that countless lives are at risk if the practice continues unchecked. He shared his personal anguish after witnessing the environmental damage firsthand in galamsey-affected areas, saying it left him deeply saddened and disheartened.
“I stand with every effort to end this problem and save lives,” Anang said, adding that he fully supports initiatives aimed at addressing the harmful effects of galamsey. He urged Ghanaians to keep the conversation going and hold the government accountable in the fight against illegal mining.
“We must raise our voices and continue to make noise about this issue. At this point, our health and future are at serious risk, and what we’re prioritizing instead doesn’t add up,” he remarked.
Anang also stressed the importance of lawful and peaceful demonstrations to protest against the harmful practice. He believes this approach ensures the safety of the public while maintaining the focus on the urgent need for reform.
“As a firm believer in the rule of law, I advocate for actions within legal limits. Crossing that line leads to unnecessary conflict,” he cautioned.
Anang’s heartfelt plea comes as public outcry grows over the worsening effects of galamsey, with his call for peaceful advocacy resonating as a path to confronting the issue responsibly.
