In a historic moment for Ghana, President Nana Akufo-Addo has commended the election of the nation’s first female Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as a remarkable achievement.
During a meeting with President-elect John Mahama and his team at the Jubilee House, Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of celebrating this achievement nationwide.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a female Vice President. This is an achievement that deserves celebration from all of us,” he stated.
Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, a renowned academic and politician, has broken barriers throughout her career.
She was the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state university in Ghana and has served as Minister for Education.
The meeting between Akufo-Addo and Mahama centered on the inauguration of a joint transitional team to oversee a smooth transfer of power.
Akufo-Addo assured Mahama of his full support during the transition process, emphasizing that it is in the interest of all Ghanaians to ensure a seamless handover.
Ahead of the official engagement, the two leaders had a brief and cordial interaction, during which President Akufo-Addo congratulated Mr. Mahama on his electoral victory.
The President explained that one of the reasons for meeting him earlier than scheduled was “to assure him of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that this administration takes off in the best of conditions.”
“It is in the interest of all of us as Ghanaians that I brought him here,” Akufo-Addo added.
The transition team, which will be inaugurated soon, will oversee the handover process, ensuring that the incoming administration is adequately prepared to assume governance responsibilities.
The team will work together to realize a seamless transition, fostering national unity and cooperation in the interest of Ghana.
