Ameyaw – Akumfi Pleads Not Guilty, Granted GH¢10m Bail.

Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi has pleaded not guilty to the misappropriation of a $2M Sky Train Project fund which
has allegedly been transferred into private accounts.

During his first hearing at the Accra high court earlier today, May 26, Mr. Akumfi pleaded not guilty to charges of wilfully causing financial loss to the state, conspiracy, and intentional dissipation of public funds.

Former CEO of GIIF, Solomon Asamoah who is also standing trial with Prof. Akumfi has also pleaded not guilty to the same charges of transferring public funds into private accounts belonging to Africa Investments holdings.

Prior to these confessions, the Accra high court has granted Prof. Akumfi a GH¢ 10m bail with two sureties. Unfolding events have indicated that Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has stepped out as one of the sureties on the Sky train scandal case.

It has been recorded that Prof. Ameyaw – Akumfi had failed to report to court for the proceedings on two different occasions citing medical emergencies as the cause for his absence.

In addition to the bail, the court has requested that the accused deposits his passport and other relevant traveling documents to the court. He must also report to the investigator once every week.

Finally, the Accra High Court has adjourned the hearing of his case to Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
