The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has encouraged appointees in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to uphold the highest standards of integrity and public service in the discharge of their duties.

During a courtesy call on President Mahama at the Jubilee House, the Asantehene emphasized the importance of loyalty, truthfulness, and a shared commitment to national development.

He urged the President’s appointees to remain focused, avoid complacency, and work in the interest of the Ghanaian people.

“The progress of the nation depends on the collective efforts of its leaders,” Otumfuo said, highlighting the need for unity and purpose in public service. He called on all officials to put Ghana first in their decision-making and responsibilities.

President Mahama, who secured a second non-consecutive term following the 2024 general elections, thanked the Asantehene for his continued support and guidance.

He recalled a pivotal moment in his political journey when Otumfuo encouraged him to accept the nomination as running mate to the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

According to the President, a message stating “Otumfuo wants you in Manhyia” led to a meeting that ultimately influenced his return to public service at a time when he had contemplated stepping away from politics.

President Mahama described the Asantehene as “a national symbol of peace and visionary leadership,” particularly noting his role in fostering stability during periods of traditional and political tension.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and highlighted several key infrastructure projects that will be prioritized in the Ashanti Region.

These include:

  1. Completion of the Maternity and Children’s Block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH);
  2. Completion of the Accra–Kumasi Highway to improve national connectivity;
  3. Expansion of the Kumasi International Airport to enhance trade and travel;
  4. Implementation of the Kumasi City Traffic Programme to address urban congestion;
  5. Construction of two military hospitals to strengthen healthcare infrastructure.

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who recently resumed official duties following a period of medical leave, was also present at the meeting.

The interaction between the President and the Asantehene reflects the continued engagement between traditional leadership and government, reinforcing national unity and shared goals for development.
