Ashanti Regional Minister to Revive Kumawood; Sets Up 17- Member Committee.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene has inaugrated a 17 member committee charged with reviving the kumawood film industry in Ghana.

The minister on Tuesday March 4, 2025 tasked members of the committee to provide strategic framework that would help revitalize the kumawood film industry which was once a vibrant entity in the Ghanaian film and entertainment industry.

The chairperson to the 17 member committee, Bishop Ofori-Adu has been tasked to engage members of the committee into identifying threats to the the film industry in order to explore other strategies that will help promote the industry both locally and internationally.

In a quest to attain both local and international recognition, the committee has been tasked to project film festivals and cultural shows to celebrate Ghanaian storytelling and creativity.

Again, the committee is to probe into avenues that will help build partnership with key stakeholders in the industry to enhance more opportunities for creatives ( film makers, actors, producers) in the industry.

Other members of the committee who were selected from different sectors of the film industry are Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu and Bill Asamoah. Mr. Amoakohene have charged committee members to be diligent and committed towards the task so as to rejuvenate the collapsing kumawood film industry in Ghana.

“I urged the committee members to carry out their mandate with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of unity to ensure that Kumawood and the entire creative industry reach new heights. Together, we will build a globally competitive film industry that tells the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana” he counselled.

The Kumawood film industry operates under the Ghanain film industry. Films are basically acted with the twi language normally produced in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana
