Brother Sammy Announces End of Marriage to Obaa Yaa.

Ghanaian gospel musician Brother Sammy has revealed that his marriage to his France-based wife, Obaa Yaa, has officially come to an end after she reportedly initiated divorce proceedings.The singer made the disclosure during an appearance on United Showbiz on UTV Ghana on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

According to Brother Sammy, he did not personally end the marriage but was rather informed that his wife had decided to dissolve the union.
“I haven’t ended my marriage. It is I who has been divorced,” the gospel musician explained during the interview.

He recounted that he first became aware of the development while performing at a musical event in Manso during the Christmas period. While at the event, he said the head of his family contacted him with unexpected news regarding his marriage.

Brother Sammy revealed that his family informed him that the customary drinks presented during their traditional marriage ceremony had been returned by his wife’s family from France, an action that traditionally signifies the intention to end a marriage.

He further explained that his family initially refused to accept the returned drinks until they had spoken directly with him about the matter.
Upon returning home, the singer said his family organised a meeting with his wife’s family in an attempt to resolve the issue and better understand the situation. However, his wife did not attend the meeting in person.Instead, he said she confirmed her decision to end the marriage during a phone conversation with both families.

“During our conversations, they said that my wife instructed them to return the drinks,” he stated.
Brother Sammy also noted that, according to the discussions held between both families, his wife did not provide any specific reason for her decision to end the marriage.
The revelation has since sparked conversations among fans and followers, with many expressing surprise at the unexpected end of the gospel singer’s marriage.
