In the evolving contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s presidential flagbearer position, former Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has made it clear where his strength and focus lie on God.
“I want to begin with God and end with God. We all know how treacherous the political journey can be,” Bryan Acheampong declared, signaling his reliance on divine direction as he prepares to formally announce his intention to lead the NPP into the next general elections.
This statement comes amid increasing activity within the ruling party as several high-profile figures position themselves for the flagbearer slot. Just a day prior, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia met with over 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who pledged their support for his campaign.
Bryan Acheampong’s spiritual approach to the race was underscored by a solemn moment of prayer led by the leadership of the Presbyterian Church. The Church’s intervention is seen as both symbolic and strategic, offering moral and spiritual grounding to the former minister as he readies himself for what is expected to be a fiercely competitive internal election.
The race for the NPP flagbearership is shaping up to be a defining moment for the party’s future, especially in the aftermath of its defeat in the 2024 general elections. Other contenders, including Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kennedy Agyapong, have declared their intentions.
Bryan Acheampong, known for his relatively quiet but effective approach to governance and development, appears to be presenting himself as a candidate guided by faith, vision, and service.
As the internal contest heats up, party delegates and grassroots supporters will be watching closely not just the strategies of the candidates, but also the values they bring to the table. For Bryan Acheampong, beginning and ending with God might just be the anchor he needs in this high-stakes political voyage.
