Ghana’s former president, the late Jerry John Rawlings have been named after a major Street in Ouagadougou the capital town of Burkina Faso.
This event took place during an inauguration and lauching ceremony of the Thomas Sankara Mausoleum in Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso.
Honouring the event were the children of the late president, Kimathi Rawlings, Amina Rawlings and Member of parliament for the Korle Klottey Municipality, Zenator – Agyemang Rawlings. Some other delegations were sent from Ghana to honor the naming.

In relation, the government of Burkina Faso have established a mausoleum in honour of their revolutionary leader, Thomas Sankara on May 17, 2025. This event was also attended by a delegation from Ghana.
Notable officials who were present at the inauguration are as follows; Minister for Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Minister for Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States, Lt. Col. Gbevlo Lartey (rtd) and Dr. Zenator Agyeman Rawlings etc.
The Burkina Faso government built a Mauseleum and a statue to honour their late revolutionary leader, Captain Thomas Sankara and his colleagues (commrades) who were killed on October 15, 1987 during a coup in Burkina Faso.
Significantly, the street naming serves as a significant milestone for Ghana adding up to the 2nd time a street has been named after a Ghanaian leader. In Benin, Rue Kwame Nkrumah street was named after Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
