Mr. Peter Kofi Marfo, Ashanti Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), has emphasized the importance of Ghanaians continually patronizing and using locally made products to sustain the arts, culture, and history of Ghana.

Speaking at the opening of the 2024 Art and Craft Exhibition at the CNC in Kumasi, Mr. Marfo noted that while many people have recognized locally made crafts such as shoes, bags, clothes, and other architectural objects, this recognition alone is insufficient. He stressed the need for continued patronage of these crafty designs, which are integral to the country’s cultural identity.

This year’s exhibition, themed “Promoting Trade, Tourism and Investments in Ashanti Region: The Role of Asantehene’s 25th Anniversary Celebration,” spans 16 days and partially aims to acknowledge the contributions of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in promoting culture and fostering peaceful cohesion among Ghanaians over the past 25 years.

The exhibition also seeks to promote Ashanti arts and symbols and educate people about the region’s traditions. Mr. Marfo praised the vibrant display of traditional clothes during the peak days of the Asantehene’s Silver Jubilee celebration, highlighting it as exemplary.

He stated that the exhibition aims to showcase the talents of individuals involved in arts and crafts in the Ashanti region and across Ghana. Mr. Marfo emphasized that people could leverage their knowledge to create wealth, thereby boosting national development and the economy through investments in arts, crafts, and culture.

Nana Addae Gyamera I, Chief of the Feyiase Akoyem Traditional Area, remarked that Ashanti culture has become one of the most esteemed cultures globally due to its distinctive arts and crafts. He urged people to immerse themselves in the culture and learn more about it, as it defines their identity. Nana Gyamera advocated for increased patronage of arts and crafts to promote cultural heritage.

Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, Kumasi Metropolitan Coordinating Director, appealed to Ghanaians to support talented young people to help build and promote the Asante culture and traditions.
