A chaotic incident disrupted the Appointments Committee’s vetting session on Thursday evening, compelling a venue change after tables and microphones were vandalized.
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga intervened, appealing for calm and announcing the relocation. He underscored Ghana’s reputation for democratic excellence, saying, “Ghana boasts one of the world’s most vibrant democracies, with a Parliament that’s the envy of many nations.”
Ayariga cautioned against actions that could tarnish Ghana’s global image, emphasizing the need for restraint. He explained that the destruction of essential equipment, including microphones, rendered it impossible to continue the vetting process.
“We would have proceeded, but logistical challenges prevail. The damaged microphones and equipment hinder our ability to conduct effective vetting,”Ayariga said.
In conclusion, Ayariga reminded members to prioritize efficiency and accountability, considering the time constraints and expectations of their constituents. “We must utilize our time wisely, satisfying our supporters while ensuring the ministers deliver on their commitments to Ghanaians.”
