Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has called on the general public to disregard claims of an intended 70 percent increase in cocoa prices to farmers in Ghana.
In an official Facebook post, COCOBOD declared those claims as false with the inscriptions “Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue.” It read.
The notice which was accompanied by a widely circulating flyer about the intended increments further urged its stakeholders and the public to disregard the notice and henceforth rely on official communication channels from COCOBOD and the ministry of food and Agriculture.
Ssignificantly, minister for food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku in an official Facebook post announced the intended increment. “I announced government’s decision to exceed the initial 60 percent proposal and offer cocoa farmers 70 percent of the world market price.”
The post further hinted that the “increase is intended to motivate farmers, boost production, and further cement Ghana’s standing as the world’s second largest producer “.
Stakeholders and the entire public are skeptical due the different issuance by Ghana COCOBOD and the Food and Agriculture minister Eric Opoku.
