A bold declaration from St. Charles Minor Seminary SHS has stirred conversation following their dominant win in the second contest of the Northern Regional Qualifiers of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The Tamale-based Catholic boys’ school didn’t just secure victory—they did so with flair and firm confidence, describing the competition as “too simple” in a post-contest remark that has sparked mixed reactions.

St. Charles topped the three-school contest with 46 points, ahead of Vitting SHS’s 27 points and Bimbilla SHS’s 13. The team’s emphatic win earned them a ticket to the NSMQ national championship, continuing their strong legacy in regional competitions.

However, it wasn’t just the scoreline that caught attention. A team member’s candid statement after the match—“The contest was too simple because our opponents weren’t good enough. If they were, they would have won”—has ignited debate among fans and education stakeholders, with some praising the confidence and others questioning the sportsmanship of such remarks.

Despite the comment, the facts are hard to ignore. St. Charles delivered a technically sound performance from start to finish, leaving little doubt about their preparedness and strategic strength.

Vitting SHS showed brief moments of resistance but were ultimately unable to keep up with the pace. Observers noted a clear improvement in their performance, even though it fell short of qualification. Bimbilla SHS, while showing determination, struggled to build any real momentum.

With their victory, St. Charles joins the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) as the second school from the region to qualify for the national competition. More schools will battle it out in the coming days, as the regional qualifiers continue to shape the lineup for the 2025 NSMQ championship.

Whether St. Charles’s post-match remarks will fuel rivalries or simply reflect unshakable self-belief, one thing is certain—the race for NSMQ glory is heating up.
