The family of Ghanaian music icon, Daddy Lumba, has officially visited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to formally announce the legendary musician’s passing.
The solemn visit took place on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the historic Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, located in the Ashanti Region. This traditional gesture is a mark of respect to the revered monarch, who had long admired and supported Daddy Lumba throughout his illustrious career.
In a video circulating on social media, the family of the late highlife legend was seen being received with honour and solemnity by the Asantehene and his courtiers. The moment was deeply emotional, as the announcement of Daddy Lumba’s death continues to send shockwaves throughout the nation and the music industry.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the spokesperson expressed heartfelt appreciation for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s support over the years, stating that the family felt it was important to inform the king personally due to the strong bond that existed between him and the late musician. The spokesperson was visibly shaken during the tribute, reflecting the immense grief shared by many Ghanaians.
