Dagbon Overlord Closes St. Vincent College for Ignoring Directive

By: Deborah Amewoyi

The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, has taken the decisive step of closing the offices of St. Vincent College of Education due to ongoing conflicts regarding the selection of a new principal.

In a directive issued by the Registrar of the Dagbon Traditional Council, Alhassan Abdul Fataw, all offices of the institution are to remain closed until further notice. This action follows the college board’s rejection of the king’s nominee for the principal position.

The registrar highlighted that the board had initially agreed to the king’s choice but later went against it. The king had specifically requested that the board appoint a local individual as principal, noting that all previous principals of the college were not from the town.

Describing the board’s actions as disrespectful, the registrar has mandated the closure of the school until the matter is resolved.
