Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to establish a nursing training college in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region if elected as President.
During his visit to the Paramount Chief of the Builsa Traditional Area, Nab Azaksuk Azantilow, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his commitment: “As President, I will ensure the establishment of a tertiary institution in this district,” he assured.
Nab Azantilow had previously appealed for a tertiary institution and other essential projects, including a cold system for Sandema Hospital, which lacks mortuary services. He emphasized the importance of these requests, stating, “We have a site ready for a nursing training college, but progress has stalled due to funding issues. We hope that prioritizing your candidacy will ensure these needs are met.”
In response to calls for amendments to the Chieftaincy Act to empower chiefs to adjudicate cases, Dr. Bawumia highlighted, “Our manifesto includes amending Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to empower chiefs.” He also mentioned plans to integrate the chieftaincy institution more closely with the government and provide living allowances to chiefs and queen mothers.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Ministers of State, former government appointees, and party executives. Key figures in his entourage included Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, and Upper East Regional Minister Alhaji Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, among others.
