Renowned diplomat Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, African Union’s High Representative for Silencing the Guns, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to guarantee a violence-free and peaceful general election.
“Under your leadership, Ghana must maintain its reputation for peaceful elections,” Dr. Chambas emphasized. “The 2020 disturbances were a setback; let’s ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
Dr. Chambas also called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to:
- Earn trust and confidence from all parties and stakeholders
- Publish polling station results on its website for transparency and credibility
Speaking at the Diplomatic Awards in Accra, Dr. Chambas stressed the importance of peaceful elections for Ghana’s reputation and stability.
The event, themed “Leveraging Diplomacy for Industrialisation, Sustainable Development, Peace, and Security,” honored outstanding contributions to peace and stability.
