Governance expert and political analyst, Dr. John Osae-Kwapong, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to act swiftly and decisively in addressing the recent controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, in order to maintain public trust in the country’s code of conduct for public officials.
Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, Dr. Osae-Kwapong highlighted the critical importance of leadership in safeguarding the integrity of public institutions and ensuring that ethical standards are upheld across all levels of government.
“I hope the President deals with this Sammy Gyamfi incident quickly to enforce trust in the code of conduct,” he stated, urging the Presidency to lead by example in confronting any alleged misconduct within its appointees.
While specific details of the incident were not discussed on air, public discourse suggests that Gyamfi’s recent actions or statements in his capacity as Acting CEO have sparked concerns about professionalism and accountability in public office.
Dr. Osae-Kwapong warned that failure to act in such cases undermines citizens’ confidence in the government’s commitment to ethical governance, particularly in the aftermath of the 2024 general elections that returned President Mahama to office.
“This is about more than just one individual. It’s about the signal we send to Ghanaians about the standards we expect in public service,” he added.
Sammy Gyamfi, a known figure in Ghanaian politics, was appointed to the Gold Board leadership in the early months of President Mahama’s administration. His transition from party communication leadership to a key state role has drawn public interest, with some observers urging stricter scrutiny.
Dr. Osae-Kwapong concluded by emphasizing that consistent enforcement of the code of conduct is essential not just for justice, but also for sustaining the credibility of the Mahama government.
“Trust is earned through action. The President must act, and act now.”
