Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu is advocating for the increase in the number of female participants in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the country.
During the minister’s visit at the ongoing TVET examinations in Koforidua, he highlighted the low participation of females in the training. “This year, over 55,000 students are taking part in the TVET examinations, yet only 14,000 of them are females.” he registered.
Mr. Iddrisu further added that this low intake of female students will consequently bridge the countrys tireless efforts towards achieving gender equity in the near future. “This is not just a statistic – it is a wake-up call. We cannot build a robust, inclusive economy when half of our population is underrepresented in critical sectors like skilled trades” he added.
He further advocated for the creation of intentional platforms that would enlighten females on the prospects of choosing TVET in the near future.
Notably, the 2025 TVET exams is set to commence today, MondayJune 24, 2025 and students are expected to complete by July 28, 2025.
The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) in a break down analysis indicated that a total of 55,295 candidates are scheduled to participate in the ongoing examinations, 40,339 comprises of males and a relatively lower number of 14,956 are females.
