The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to upholding transparency and integrity as the nation approaches the December 7 elections. She assured that the EC will not compromise these core principles, emphasizing that the commission is dedicated to ensuring that all processes lead to free, fair, and credible elections.
Mrs. Mensa highlighted the comprehensive systems the EC has established to maintain the integrity of the electoral process, which plays a crucial role in strengthening Ghana’s democracy. One of the commission’s priorities is thoroughly reviewing the provisional voters’ register, ensuring no eligible voter is disenfranchised.
“I want to stress that the EC cannot rig elections for any individual or party. Ghana’s electoral system is robust, from the registration process to the voting and final declaration of results. As the EC Chairperson, I only announce results that have been duly signed and certified at the polling stations,” she stated.
Mrs. Mensa made these remarks during a meeting with the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL), Ato Afful, at the EC’s headquarters in Accra last Wednesday. The visit was aimed at fostering a stronger working relationship between the two institutions.
Strengthening Collaboration
The meeting also included key representatives from both organizations. The EC team was led by Mrs. Mensa and included the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, and the Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Banor-Bio. The GCGL delegation was represented by Director of Marketing, Franklin Sowa, News Editor, Samuel Doe Ablordeppey, Corporate Communications Manager, Emmanuel Arthur, and acting Assistant Photo Editor, Edna Salvo Kotey.
Both parties discussed ways to enhance their collaboration, particularly in supporting the EC’s mandate to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
