Dr. Bossman Asare, the deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), has announced that the commission is ready to meet with all political parties to address concerns regarding the voter register.
He revealed that the EC has resolved all issues raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and is willing to explain the process to them.
Dr. Asare emphasized that calling for a forensic audit of the voter register is premature, citing that there has never been an audit of the register before.
He encouraged Ghanaians to trust the EC as an institution, rather than focusing on individual members.
This comes after concerns were raised about the appointment of EC members perceived to be sympathetic to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Retired Justice William Atuguba criticized the president for appointing “stooges” to the commission.
Dr. Asare assured that the EC has addressed all concerns and is committed to transparency.
He mentioned that the NDC national executives, together with other political parties were invited to discuss their issues, stating that requesting a forensic audit is premature.
The EC plans to present the comprehensive voter’s register to political parties and stakeholders on October 1, 2024.
