A shocking case of alleged fraud has been uncovered within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), prompting Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor to launch a thorough investigation.

According to sources, a container worth $500,000 was imported by ECG but left unclaimed at the port. The container was subsequently auctioned off for 100,000 cedis, a fraction of its true value. In a surprising twist, the container was later resold to ECG for $300,000.

“It will stop. And I mean it will stop. Whatever it takes to stop that, no matter how unpopular that may be, we must take action,” Minister Jinapor vowed, expressing his outrage over the incident.

The Minister has established a committee to investigate ECG’s procurement activities during the Akufo-Addo administration. Preliminary findings have revealed widespread irregularities, including a disregard for proper procurement procedures.

Minister Jinapor disclosed that the investigation has so far revealed “massive rot” within ECG, adding that the government will take decisive action against those responsible for the alleged fraud.

The government has also commissioned a financial audit of ECG’s procurement activities, to be conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

The development has sparked concerns about accountability and transparency within Ghana’s energy sector. The government has assured that it will do everything possible to prevent such incidents in the future.
