Fair Wages and Salaries Commission Meets CETAG to Resolve Ongoing Strike

By: Kekeli K. Blamey

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) is meeting with the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) today to address their concerns and resolve the ongoing strike.

The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Employment and Labour, aims to find a solution to the strike that has left teacher trainees in Colleges of Education stranded for over a month.

CETAG embarked on an indefinite strike on June 14, 2024, citing the government’s failure to implement arbitral awards and other conditions of service for its members.

The strike has entered its second month, prompting calls for the closure of Colleges of Education.

However, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has stated that no decision has been made to close the institutions.

The meeting will be attended by key stakeholders, including the President of CETAG, the Director-General of GTEC, the President of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), the Director of Tertiary at the Ministry of Education, and the Head of the Public Financial Management Unit (CPMU) at the Ministry of Finance.

The commission is expected to work with CETAG to find a solution that benefits all parties involved.
